Oh baby!

I've temporarily changed the template of this blog to a baby-themed one as I enjoy my excitement over the new addition.  Never fear though, we will return to our regularly scheduled knitting program soon!  Here's a peek at my new little monkey...

Scarf Happenings...

Like a good girl, I started on my ISE scarf this weekend as planned, and it's coming along nicely.  The colourway of the yarn is really beautiful and this Misty alpaca chunky is sooooo soft.  I know it's soft when my dh touches it and says he can't breathe (he's not a fan of really soft things... heehee)!  Here's some progress:

                     

I decided to use a smaller needle to make the scarf a little longer than the pattern calls for so it can be wrapped a couple of times around the recipients neck.  I love this pattern already and think I'll be making my own Ribs and Ruffles scarf before all is said and done...

See, my needles have been busy!

                     

This is proof that I have been knitting.  Things are going a little slower on the baby gift since I increase every other round, and that makes for a lotta stitches.  You'd get a better idea of my progress if I'd put the stitches on scrap yarn, but that would just be a delay in my knitting right now... Maybe I'll do that later, when I've got a couple more inches done, just for effect.  I might just finish this by the second deadline!

As for baby gifts 2 and 3, I think I'm going to make a sweater/bloomer/bootie set for Brody and a sweater? for Cooper.  Now I've got to scout out some yarn in the meantime.  I really like Rowan all seasons cotton for its easy care (great for baby things), and it's nice to knit with as well.  We'll see.

My yarn should arrive in a couple of days for the ISE project, and just in time to start knitting!  I've got to get that baby finished and overseas by November 1st!

that I'd have made this baby gift on size tens rather than size sevens, cause i'd be closer to completed by now!  Oh well... it'll still look and feel great when I'm done no matter how long it takes me.  Besides, the finer knit always looks prettier to me anyway.  (Have I made myself feel better yet?!)

I ordered my yarn today for the ISE assignment - misti baby alpaca in marina melange, a pretty mix of blues.  The pattern is this one, which I'd saved since seeing it last year and loving it.  I hope my pal likes it.  I'll need to start working on it as soon as the yarn arrives, since it's got a ways to travel.  It will be nice to have short breaks from my current project to rev up my knitting engine again.  I'm sort of breaking my one knit at a time rule, but I have no choice in this case, and I could use the change.  I'll show pics as soon as the yarn arrives...

Somethin' Bout a Sunday

It's a gorgeous day today... the weather is sunny, in the 80s.  There's just a hint of autumn in the occasional breeze.  My bug is napping peacefully as my fingers are intertwined with soft cashmerino aran yarn and the smell of banana bread baking floats through the air.  The only thing to make it better would be my man curled up next to me on the couch as I knit away.  *sigh*

Babies - 3 Knittingirl - 0

It seems all of the baby boys have arrived before any knitted gifts have been completed... number three made his appearance last night, so now I'm officially three gifts behind.  Meaning?  These are all becoming Christmas baby gifts!  Hudson, Brody, and Cooper - I promise the goods will get to you eventually! 

And I've decided to show progress on the projects, since I love progress no matter how miniscule it might be, and I don't think pictures ever do a handknit justice... So here's Hudson progress:

See what I mean?  It looks much better in person, trust me!

Anyhoo, I've also signed up again for the International Scarf Exchange, so that'll be on my plate soon as well.  I've got my secret pal's info - now I just have to find the perfect pattern and yarn.  Stay tuned for updates on the scarf!

Knitting goal:  Knit for at least 30 minutes every night this week... no matter what!
